I posted a YouTube video earlier today of Tell Them Anything You Want, a 40-minute documentary on Maurice Sendak who died earlier today. The video has been taken down, but not before I managed to transcribe the author and illustrator’s parting thoughts on his work and life:
I did some…
I literally just handed an essay in on this man’s life and work last week.
Definately someone I look to as an inspiriation, RIP.
A short video piece for my University brief about “English” things.
I decided to talk to, and film my Dad - who has always firmly considered himself an Englishman, despite his cultural and ethnical roots.
He talked to me, among other things about what makes an Englishman, and about growing up in England in the 60’s.
-Super-duper thank-yous go to my friend David who sat with me and edited the rather messy videos I presented him with! -
(Be gentle with me, first time I’ve tried to make a video piece…!)
Posters I made for the “documentary” I filmed for my “English” project at University.
The film featured my Dad…
I spent the day monoprinting - decided to use it as a way to work through ideas. I’m working on a project about being English for uni….still havent sorted out what I’m doing exactly… it was fun though
A little extra from monoprinting I did today..
Getting all the stuff together for my ‘narative sequence’ which I have to make to fit with a song for my Image Manipulation module…
The song I picked was ‘The ghost who walks’ by Karen Elson - to me there was such a clear narrative..
On Monday, I went to the ‘Pick Me Up’ contemporary graphic art fair with Aleesha Nandhra, and made some illustrations for flamingo magazine, amongst other illustrators, 1950’s style. Saw some really great work in the galleries, too many good artists to name them all, but I did like Paul X Johnsons beautiful work, and Riikka Sormunen’s quirky illustrations.
A sketch I did earlier turned into this…..
Mr. Jack White… coloured pencils and a lot of fine-liner.. I thought it turned out very similar to the drawing I did of Bono a while back http://aleesha-nandhra.tumblr.com/post/16423011700 ..aparantly I am making a series subconciously! ;)
